Individual admits sex offences against boys at youth camp
An individual who contaminated candy with sedative and distributed them to minors at a summer camp in Leicestershire has admitted sexual crimes against two boys both nine and ten years old.
The accused was taken into custody after eight minors and an older person fell ill at the facility in the summer month.
The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he appeared at the judicial center on the end of the week.
However, he denied one particular crime he was charged with, which was concerning a nine-year-old child.
The accused was kept in jail ahead of a subsequent court date on late November.
'Sweet game'
The legal representative, prosecuting, outlined the defendant's actions to the legal proceedings.
She stated his those affected were under-privileged children who were attending a summer program which he managed.
The man engaged in a "treat game" with the minors, the prosecutor stated, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and ask them to ingest treats "as fast as possible".
She told the court the defendant had conducted this practice with the children "repeatedly", and children had earlier experienced illness the following morning.
She explained Ruben had been able to explain this repeatedly as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had suspicions in recently.
The prosecutor added: "In the summer" his stepson had suspicions about the activities, justifiably.
"They chose" to examine in the individual's items."
The prosecutor explained objects including infant oil, ointment and injection devices were located, and his family member alerted the authorities about his worries.
She explained the defendant went on to play the "treat game" with six children that night - July 26th - and they were all ill the subsequent day.
"The police had not responded by that stage," she stated further.
The regulatory agency, the investigative body, earlier informed that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.
The legal representative said the minors were struggling to walk due to being ill, so the family member notified the law enforcement once more.
She said the man then conducted the "treat game" in a area of five children.
